Converting Height Between cm and Feet
Divide centimeters by 2.54 for total inches, then split by 12: the whole part is feet, the remainder is inches. So 170 cm becomes 66.93 total inches, which is 5 feet with 6.9 inches left over. Going the other way, multiply feet by 12, add the inches, multiply the sum by 2.54.
Why inches show one decimal
Nobody says they are 5 foot 6.9291. Height convention rounds to the nearest tenth of an inch, and this page follows it. When the remainder rounds all the way up to 12, the feet tick over instead: 182.87 cm reads as 6 ft 0 in, not 5 ft 12 in.
Leaving a box empty
On the imperial side, an empty feet or inches field counts as zero while the other has a value. Type 71 in the inches box alone and the centimeters answer, 180.34, appears anyway.
Plain lengths
This page thinks in feet-and-inches pairs because that's how people state height. For a straight single-unit answer, the cm to inches converter gives you decimals without the split.
